George Washington Carver Elementary School is working on the failing grade they received on the Alabama Report Card by having Reading Rockers. The Reading Rockers are community leaders, governmental departments and citizens who are participating in reading to the third-grade students at Carver.

Carver is helping the students by having individuals come in to read to small group of students and then see how much they comprehended the information by going through practice questions and re-telling the stories. The students enjoy the interaction with the readers and being able to say what they learn.

The Reading Rockers are: the Utilities Board of Tuskegee, the Tuskegee Fire Department, the Macon County Sheriff’s Department, the Macon County Retired Teachers Association, the Tuskegee City Council and The Tuskegee News. The Reading Rockers can come on any Tuesday and Thursday and read to the students.
