Ms. Mary Lee Mayo Brown, the sixth child of six children, born to Jessie Clifford and Martha Mayo of Suffolk, Virginia, died on Friday, July 7, 2017. She was born November 5, 1950.

Mary Lee had four children: Jacquelyn A. Mayo Daniel, Mildred M. Brown Taylor, Jesse Clarence Brown and Rodrick B. Brown. Some of her children have given her several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Additionally, she has three siblings who are still living: Dr. Margaret Ellen Mayo Tolbert, Springfield, Virginia; Jessie Benjamin Mayo Sr., Tuskegee Institute; and Eleanor Olivia Mayo Minns, Suffolk, Virginia.

Two of her sisters, Audrey Mae Mayo Holley and Reverend Lee Vania Mayo Williams are deceased.

Mary Lee studied biology at Tuskegee University and later changed her major to nursing. However, she did not earn a degree.

While enrolled at Tuskegee University, she worked as a student technical assistant at the Carver Research Foundation of Tuskegee University. After leaving Tuskegee University, she worked as a dental assistant at Davis and Dingle Family Dentistry and at the office of Dr. N. Jeff Carden III. Additionally, at various times, she held other jobs in Tuskegee. Also, she has held out-of-state positions.

Her family members pray that God will bless her soul and she will rest in peace.

A celebration of Mary Lee Mayo Brown's life will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2017, beginning at 10 a.m. at Greater St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church in Tuskegee.
