The Booker T. Washington High boys basketball team, 10-9, will host the Class 5A, Area 5 Tournament this week at the BTW gym.

The BTW boys had a bye into the championship game that will be played at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 8. The Golden Eagles will face the winner of Tuesday’s contest between Beauregard and Valley.

The winner of the championship game will be home for the next round while the runnerup will travel for a second-round contest.

BTW Boys 67, Beauregard 56

The leading scorer for BTW was Joseph Graham with 18 points, followed by Kendal Moore with 16 and Joe Phillips with 13. The leading scorers for Beauregard were Jachias Holmes with 16, Qutavios Seroyer with 14 and Wade Cash with 10.

Brewbaker Tech 72, BTW Boys 55

Desmond Williams poured in 28 points to lead Brewbaker Tech. Theo Akwubo scored 17 points while adding 14 rebounds and 11 blocked shots for the winners. Evan Carter added 16 points. The leading scorer for BTW was Joe Phillips with 26 points, followed by Kendal Moored with 12.

BTW Boys 55, Notasulga 41

D.J. Parker scored 13 points and Joe Phillips 12 for BTW. Walter tatum led Notasulga with 18 points.

BTW Girls Tournament Host

The Booker T Washington High School Lady Eagles are hosting the Class 5A, Area 5 Tournament that began on Tuesday, Feb. 6.

The Lady Eagles had a first-round bye with a perfect 4-0 record in the area.

BTW will take on the winner of the Beauregard and Valley game that was played on Tuesday night.

The BTW game against the Beauregard-Valley winner is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 8. at 5 p.m. for the Area Championship.

BTW Girls over Notasulga

The BTW Lady Eagles traveled to Notasulga High School to take on the Lady Blue Devils on Friday, Jan. 26.

BTW’s leading scorers were Daejah Bailey 14 points and four assists. Tahtyana Piner and Naya James both put in 13 points.

Notasulga’s leading scorer was Morgan Hunter with 12 points.
