RAIN DAMPENS FAIR OPENING, POOL TEMPORARILY CLOSED

Fair Tuskegee, the annual carnival that is held during the 4th of July Holiday weekend, opening was slow due to the weather on Thursday and Friday, June 29 and 30, at Henderson Park (next to Tuskegee Public).

On Saturday, when the weather was clear, the Fair was jam-packed with people enjoying the rides, buying food, and playing games.

The City Swimming Pool at Henderson Park has been temporarily closed because of a pump issue.

Fall Youth Sports Registration

Tuskegee Parks & Registration is now accepting registrations for its fall programs: Football, Cheerleading, and Volleyball. Tuskegee Parks & Recreation will be entering its fouth year in the East Alabama Youth Football League and is the defending champion in the sophomore division.

The TPR Junior Tigers are also the defending champions in cheerleading in the freshman division.

Tuskegee will host the ARPA state volleyball championship in November of 2017.

The cost for football and cheerleading is $75 and the cost for volleyball is $50.

Camp Ongoing through July 13

The Tuskegee Parks & Recreation Department will conduct a youth football and cheer camp at Abbott Park from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays through July 13. Please contact TPR at 334-226-1630 for more information.

Parks and Recreation Month

WHEREAS parks and recreation programs are an integral part of communities throughout this country, including Tuskegee, Alabama; and

WHEREAS our parks and recreation are vitally important to establishing and maintaining the quality of life in our communities, ensuring the health of all citizens, and contributing to the economic and environmental well-being of a community and region; and

WHEREAS parks and recreation programs build healthy, active communities that aid in the prevention of chronic disease, provide therapeutic recreation services for those who are mentally or physically disabled, and also improve the mental and emotional health of all citizens; and

WHEREAS parks and recreation programs increase a community’s economic prosperity through increased property values, expansion of the local tax base, increased tourism, the attraction and retention of businesses, and crime reduction; and

WHEREAS parks and recreation areas are fundamental to the environmental well-being of our community; and

WHEREAS parks and natural recreation areas improve water quality, protect groundwater, prevent flooding, improve the quality of the air we breathe, provide vegetative buffers to development, and produce habitat for wildlife; and

WHEREAS our parks and natural recreation areas ensure the ecological beauty of our community and provide a place for children and adults to connect with nature and recreate outdoors; and

WHEREAS the U.S. House of Representatives has designated July as Parks and Recreation Month; and

WHEREAS Tuskegee, Alabama recognizes the benefits derived from parks and recreation resources

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY the City Council of Tuskegee, Alabama that July is recognized as Park and Recreation Month in the City of Tuskegee.
