The Fishing Derby for Macon County on Saturday, June 10 had about 75 participants. The U.S. Forest Service, along with several local agencies, joined to encourage youth to enjoy the great outdoors by hosting the free youth fishing derby at Thloko Okhussee (The Big Pond) located in the Tuskegee National Forest.

More than 700 lbs of fish was put in the pond for the youth to catch, and an estimated weight of 300 lbs of the fish was caught.

The day was full of fishing, food and fun. Awards were given in three age categories for largest fish, smallest fish and the most fish collected during the derby. Over $3,000 in prizes and gifts were given to the children if they caught a fish or not.
